Ramadan Moonsighting in Japan

Nov 22, 2025 · H. Maqsood Ahmed

The folks at JapaneseMuslims.com website just got the news from the Hilal Committee of Japan that they could not confirm the sightings of the new crescent today (Thursday) in Japan or in Malaysia. Therefore,  the month of Shaban completes 30 days and  the month of Ramadan will start on Saturday, July 21, 2012. Inshallah, the Muslims in Japan will start the month-long observance of Ramadan on Saturday.

Muslims astronomers and all the other visibility forecast had already indicated that the likelihood of the Hilal (crescent on Thursday would be almost impossible in all global regions including Japan. However, it will be easily visible on Friday evening if there are no clouds in the country.

Fasting during the month of Ramadan is one of the fundamental pillars of Islam. It is a wonderful experience to be fasting during the month of Ramadan.  Most of the mosques in Japan make special arrangements for Iftar during the holy month,. Taraweeh prayer is held in almost all of the masajids in the country. May Allah give us the toufeeq and power to do good deed which Allah and His Messenger want us to do.
