The start of Ramadan this year is a chance to plan ahead before we, as individuals, vanish into the annals of history. Surely, many Ramadans have come and gone into our lives. At the beginning of this holy month, we make and unmake new resolutions, to make changes in our lifestyles, to leave bad habits and brace for good ones, to do good deeds, to give charity in the path of Allah, to help the poor and the needy and so on. We are pretty aggressive for the first few days of this month in attaining these objectives.
However, usually, what happens is we start losing the direction, start forgetting the resolutions we had set for ourselves in the begininng of this month as the days and weeks pass by.
Now, the month of Ramadan is few hours away from us, it requires us to make certain changes in the way we have been spending our lives throughout these years. It is asking us to make this month the defining moment of our lives. Allah has said in the Quran, “Has not the time come for the hearts of the believers to submit and humble themselves?”
We need to spend these days and nights of the Ramadan as if it were the last Ramadan for us and we have to strive ever harder to earn the deeds we need so badly to please our Allah and the Prophet Sallahu Alaihi Waalihii Wassalamim, to be successful in the world hereafter.
One of the best deeds we could perform during the month of fasting is to spread the peaceful message of Islam to our non-Muslims friends, relatives or whosoever is willing to listen to the call of Allah.
