There has been a surge of businesses all around the world to tap into the rapidly-growing Halal market in the world. Many Japanese & global multinationals as well as small to medium sized business all over the globe have been entering into this market to get a pie of the ever-growing market. Most of these firms are owned and operated by the non-Muslims.
In fact, it was reported during this year’s Mihas 2014 Annual Conference, that 75% to 85% of the Halal industry is being controlled by the non-Muslims. That was mind-boggling to me.
However, there is a broader question of the authenticity of the Halal products these companies big and small, are making for the Muslim markets. How can you expect a person or a company to FULLY comply with the Shariah law of Halal and tayyib when their sole motive is to earn profit and more of it? Simply a Halal certification obtained from a Halal certifying body does not answer this seeminly complicated question.
There are quite a few restaurants being run by non-Muslims (even some Muslims do the same) which do not hesitate to use Haram ingredients to prepare their so-called Halal dishes as these haram ingredients are little cheaper than the Halal ones. How can you force a person or a company to comply with the Shariah rules of Halalness when they do not believe in the Shariah?
That was a very good reminder for all muslims. May ALLAH bless you as you continue to reminder our muslim ummah in the whole world,
Masha Allah
