Allowing Non-Muslims To Enter Into Mosques In Japan

Nov 22, 2025 · H. Maqsood Ahmed

non-muslims-in-a-mosqueIn Masjid ul Haram or Masjid Nabawi in Mecca and Madina respectively, we can justify banning of the non-Muslims to enter into these Holy mosques.  However, in japan and all the countries including Muslims and non-Muslims alike, there is no solid reason for us to ban the non-Muslims from entering into the mosques.  We need to welcome the non-Muslims to our masaajid at least for Dawah if not for any thing else.

Few months back while visiting the famous Blue Mosque in Shah Alam near Kuala Lumpur, I was shocked to see the sign board saying the non-Muslims were not allowed into the Mosques beyond that specific area.  It was quite disturbing to me.

If we do not let them into the mosques, how can we expect them to become Muslims.  If non-Muslims can not have a first-hand of how the Muslims perform their ritual prayers in the mosques, how will they be intrigued to ask questions about Islam and what image will get about a religion which keeps them away from the Masaajid?

We need to change our policy of secluding non-Muslims but rather welcome them  so that they do not become  suspicious of our activities inside the Mosques.  The Masaajid should be open to everyone including the non-Muslims provided that they follow the necessary Islamic dress code. especially in relatively bigger mosques in the Muslim countries and the mosques in non-Muslim countries should have at least one person who could answer to any questions/comments raised by the non-Muslim visitors.

    Assalamualikum!
I totally agree with you – You can even find few examples of Prophet (Peace be upon him) allowing non-muslims to enter Mosque

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) let some of the non-Muslim delegations stay in his mosque, so that they could see the people praying and listen to his recitation of Qur’aan and his sermons, and so that they could call them to Allah from close at hand. And the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) tied up Thumaamah ibn Athaal al-Hanafi in the mosque when he was brought to him as a prisoner of war, and Allah guided him and he became a Muslim. And Allah is the Source of strength. Japanese are intelligent and brillant people who can well understand the great and true message of Islam.
